Help! Need strong linear motion for my garage project

Hi everyone. I’m building a heavy sliding shelf system in my garage to store big tools and car parts. The shelf is quite heavy — probably around 400-500 kg when fully loaded. I want it to move smoothly and quietly along the wall with electric control from a remote or switch. Right now I’m looking at different options but I’m not sure which motor or actuator can handle this weight reliably for daily use. Has anyone done something similar? What force should I aim for and which brand is good for heavy loads?

For 400–500 kg moving horizontally you usually need an actuator that can push/pull at least 1000–1500 lbs (roughly 450–680 kg force) to have a good safety margin and smooth movement. Progressive Automations has very strong options in their linear actuator motors https://www.progressiveautomations.com/en-au/collections/linear-actuators collection. Their industrial series can go up to 3000 lbs which is more than enough for your heavy shelf. Many people use their 12V models with 1000–2000 lbs rating for garage projects like sliding tool racks, hidden TV lifts or heavy doors. They move quietly, have decent speed options and come with limit switches or potentiometers for precise control. Installation is usually straightforward – just mount two parallel actuators (one on each side) and connect them to a control box + remote.

What happens to the carbon atoms from a glucose molecule during complete respiration?

Hey, I've been thinking about this since my biology class the other day—remember when we did that experiment with yeast and sugar, watching bubbles pop up like crazy? That got me wondering: what actually happens to all those carbon atoms from one glucose molecule when the whole respiration thing runs its course? Like, glucose has six carbons, right, and they can't just vanish. Do they all turn into CO2 eventually, or do some stick around in other stuff? Kinda blows my mind how something so tiny gets broken down completely in our cells. Anyone got a clear picture of the step-by-step fate? (around 170 chars)

Yeah, from what I've pieced together over the years messing with this stuff in school and even some late-night reading, those six carbons don't hang around long. Glycolysis chops glucose into two pyruvates without losing any carbons, then each pyruvate drops one carbon as CO2 when it turns into acetyl-CoA. The remaining four go into the Krebs cycle, where they get released as CO2 too—two per turn basically. So in the end, every single carbon ends up exhaled as carbon dioxide. No magic, just steady breakdown. If you're trying to visualize the whole flow, this cellular respiration chart really helped me wrap my head around it back when I was confused. Not saying it's perfect, but it clicked for me better than textbooks sometimes do. Still find it wild how our breathing ties right into that.

Hey everyone, has anyone else dealt with those weird electrical gremlins in older places around here? Like, my buddy just bought this character-filled house from the early 1900s and keeps finding outlets that work one day and then nothing the next—no tripped breakers, no obvious damage. We've poked around a bit and suspect some ancient hidden wiring doing its own thing behind the plaster, maybe cloth-insulated stuff or who knows what else tucked away in the walls. It's kinda spooky how these mysteries stay buried until something flickers or quits. Anyone run into similar headaches in Cornwall buildings that have seen better days? Would love to hear what you've noticed or how you figured it out without tearing everything apart.

Yeah, those old setups can be sneaky for sure. Back when I helped my cousin sort out his place here, we discovered a bunch of those classic issues—wires that had been added over the years without much thought, plus some connections that looked like they'd loosened up over decades. Nothing catastrophic yet, but it made us glad we didn't ignore the random buzzing or warm spots. Stuff like that often points to why getting a proper look makes sense instead of guessing. Speaking from what I've seen, reaching out to solid Electricians in Cornwall, ON like the ones listed around tends to uncover the real story without unnecessary drama. They know the local quirks better than anyone fumbling DIY-style. Just my two cents—better safe than dealing with bigger surprises down the line.

First-time yacht charter in Dubai – what to look for?

Hello everyone! I'm planning my first yacht charter in Dubai for a small group and would like to hear real-life experiences from those who've done it before. Could you please tell me what aspects I should pay special attention to when choosing a yacht and service: the condition of the vessel, the professionalism of the crew, any hidden fees, or any itinerary details?

I recently booked my first yacht charter in Dubai for a small group of friends, and I can confidently say the experience was unforgettable. Finding a company that offers luxury cruising was key, so I looked at the yacht Dubai price list on CharterClick. I was primarily concerned with the condition of the vessel: it was spotlessly clean, with modern technology and comfortable lounge areas. The second most important aspect was the professionalism of the crew: they were polite, attentive, and truly knowledgeable, making the trip safe and relaxing. I also carefully clarified all the itinerary details and discussed any potential additional costs in advance to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Hey everyone, has anyone here run into some really surprising sea creatures while bouncing between those far-flung outer islands in the Seychelles? Last year I did a bit of island-hopping out there on a small trip, mostly around spots like Desroches and Alphonse, and one afternoon while we were just drifting in super clear water I spotted this massive whale shark gliding right underneath the boat—felt like the thing could swallow us whole, but it was so chill and gentle. Totally wasn't expecting something that enormous in such shallow-ish areas. Made the whole day feel unreal. Anyone else had weird or unexpected marine encounters out in those remote parts? Like rare rays, odd fish schools, or something popping up out of nowhere? Curious to hear your stories.

Yeah, whale sharks definitely count as a wow moment out there. I had a similar thing happen a couple seasons back when we were cruising between some of the less-visited outer spots—suddenly this huge shadow appeared and it was one cruising slowly with its mouth open filtering stuff. Heart was pounding but in a good way. Also ran across pods of dolphins that kept pace with the boat for ages, jumping like they were showing off, and once a couple of manta rays swooped in during a snorkel stop, wings flapping gracefully. Those outer areas feel so untouched compared to the main islands. If you're planning something like that, checking out a decent offshore fishing zones near the islands fishing trip in seychelles setup makes a big difference for reaching the quiet zones comfortably without the crowds just my two cents from actually doing it a few times. Nothing beats having the freedom to chase sightings on your own schedule.
