Massage
Massage is the manipulation of muscles, tendons, and ligaments to reduce muscle tension, spasms and pain, to promote muscular relaxation, to improve blood and lymph flow, to enhance the elimination of toxic waste products, to speed up recovery, to improve athletic performance, and promote a heightened sense of general well being.
Remedial Massage
Remedial massage is a combination of many of the following types of massage to prevent and/or improve soft tissue function. It is predominately a deep tissue massage for treatment of injuries, tension, aches and pain. The tension and congestion is massaged out of tight, scarred and shortened muscles, tendons and ligaments. The results include improved circulation and flexibility, reduced tension and reduced pain of the respective tissue. Each therapist will tailor the treatment based on your history, symptoms, needs and requirements. For maximum benefit in the initial stages a series of weekly or fortnightly massages is recommended. Massage combined with other modalities like chiropractic and naturopathy etc, is highly complementary to overall health care.
Deep Tissue Massage
This massage covers all the soft tissue layers form the upper layers(superficial) to the much deeper layers of muscle, tendons and ligaments. This massage generally improves circulation, and flexibility, and reduces symptoms from mild to chronic conditions from mild headaches to chronic whiplash etc.
Sports Massage
Sports massage is included in the remedial massage program. Sports massage can assist clients and athletes of any level, as a preparation for competition, during competition, for warm up and/or cool down purposes, or for maintenance and assistance with injuries at any stage. Pre-event warm-up massage is a lighter massage performed quickly to warm up the tissues, so they are ready to perform. Post-event massage is light to medium, slower and deeper massage to stretch out tight muscles and boost lactic acid and inflammation circulation to reduce recovery time, reduce pain and reduce tissue stress. The sports massage can be tailored for specific muscle groups depending on which part of the body the athlete uses more eg leg muscles for a runner, arm muscles for a swimmer stc.
Trigger Point Massage
Trigger Point Massage is a pressure massage of acupressure points. These pain and tender trigger pints are identified and massaged in conjunction with the other remedial techniques as a part of an overall treatment plan.
Reflexology
Reflexology is a deep tissue massage of acupressure points of the chinese meridians (energy channels) of the feet or hands. Particular organs and systems can be affected via this method, enhancing toxic circulation, stimulation and relaxation. This method can be particularly beneficial for hand and foot ailments.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage
This is a light to medium massage of the lymphatic system, predominantly the arms, legs and abdomen depending on the areas of most fluid retention. This massage assists conditions associated with swelling, inflammation, oedema and detoxification by directing excessive fluid containing waste products to the kidneys and out of the body. Lymphatic massage is particularly useful for post breast/lymphatic tissue removal surgery, sprains, oedema and swelling or as part of a detox program.
Relaxation/Swedish Massage
This massage consists of long slow open palm free flowing strokes. This is a massage of the upper layers of tissue and is more appropriate for mild conditions of tension or if very gentle massage is required for relaxation or just to treat yourself. This type of massage is very relaxing and nurturing. This is the type of massage predominately experienced in most beauty salons or spas.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stones can be massaged over the body or affected areas for both remedial and relaxation purposes. They feel divine as well as promoting relaxation and/or rehabilitation.
